Y Is It Ok To Say ‘redneck’, ‘cracker’ Or ‘hillbilly’?

but not ok to say ******? aren’t they all equally degrading? Isn’t it double-standard? I saw a movie on TV last night that reminded me of this when whites were repeatedly called these names, but if reversed would be a crime…equality for all..not ‘favortism’ for minorities and women…difference between equality and special treatment homeboys!

Because white people are the cultural majority and were responsible for the discrimination of many other people.
Also, most “crackers” or “red necks” aren’t really seriously offended by these terms.
My grandfather definitely fit the idea of a “cracker” or “red neck.” He was a good provider to his children, but he liked to drink, got into fights and had a profound hatred of black people.
Country music used to be called “hillbilly music.” I don’t think anyone thought it was an offensive name.

Lets just leave it to a point that name-calling overall is degrading.
The N Word you mentioned may not be used often because society may not want African Americans to experience hurt feelings especially after a long history of segregation. The word was used in terms of offense as opposed to words like “cracker” which were used in terms of joking.
This same problem goes when LGBT people are called fags and dykes. People need to understand that these labels are not necessary and only cause pain.

It’s negative to say either but the “N” word is definitely worse. It is more demeaning to call an African American that than calling a white person cracker because this word wasn’t used the same way as the “N” word was. Also, like someone else said a lot of white people don’t even think that cracker, redneck or hillbilly are negative.

being black, i honestly want to say that it’s okay but i’d be over-looking my morals. it’s not okay. using anything in effort to hurt someone is wrong. you have to realize that n!66er was used during a very hard time towards blacks in history. that word was used in effort to belittle, demean and hurt blacks. cracker was just a name for the abusers at the time. it deserves special treatment because it has a more sentimental, yet still derrogatory meaning to it. unless you are black, you won’t understand.

it’s because white people don’t make a big deal out of it. hannah montana even calls her father hillbilly in the show. If black people don’t want the word, maybe they shouldnt say it themselves. I always here black people call each other and other people NlGGERs. go figure.

I,m with you, a word is a word. I never filter my words, if people
dont like them they can walk away.
Words only have power if you let them have it.
