People of allwalks of life love nascar, it’s not just us rednecks. But Ibelieve us blue collar folks are the mass majority of the fans. Now let’s all get ready to watch Tony Stewart win the Daytona 500! Go Smoke!!!

Because the rest are preppies who like golf.
Proud to be a redneck and a fan of Tony Stewart

i dont think u have to be a redneck or a hillbilly, i am, but if u like fast cars, or people crashin into each other, or loud noises, or being drunk and watchin cars go in circles then u like nascar. but it orginated from the south and southerns are usually rednecks and hillbillys so thats why most of them go. look at it this way its a place to go w/your family and friends, to party and get drunk, and to be in one of the greatest atmosphere in the world. thousands of normal working people just like u are there for fun. but dont think that rich or city people dont go. b/c at the texas motor speedway a couple of years back chuck norris came. alot of famous people come to sit in the suites, and enjoy a good ol time. and by the way alot of people just pick the drivers that win or that are most talked about. i hate jeff gordon he sucks, but earnhardt is good but he still has a few years to go before he hits it big. im a kevin harvick and kasey kane fan.

heather_ @ 7:51 am #

Because it’s something we rednecks always did-RACE- back roads-1/4 mile on Saturday night etc.
One guy
One car
One dream!

I live in South Texas and there are alot of Nascar fans down here…most are Hispanic though like ME… :)

krmzjt21 @ 11:31 am #

Just a way to drink all you want and yell all you want …..Gordan

kellygir @ 2:49 pm #

lets see, watch 30 cars race on a three lane track, weaving through traffic, or watch 60 year old men put their balls around a hole? Yup, I’m a redneck. GO JR.

slbowen4 @ 6:54 pm #

Living in the city and dealing with bumper to bumper traffic pretty much means that the last thing I want to do with my free time is watch cars driving.

2Negativ @ 7:47 pm #

probably because nascar originated in the south when moonshiners would modify their cars so they could outrun the police. I’m from the north and I prefer formula 1

Heil bush! @ 12:03 am #

Um check the avatar…..I sure don’t look like any one of those and I love NASCAR. oh and Jeff Gordon and now also Montoya are my favorite drivers.

? @ 5:54 am #

We are just cool like that haha. No, it is probably because of the roots, you know, where NASCAR actually started. I reckon that it must’ve started out in the country around small towns and lots of farmland. And I guess it just grows into the culture in those areas and people from those areas become NASCAR fans. Nowadays it is spreading around, but the heart of NASCAR will always lie in the places where it started.

sweetpan @ 8:03 am #

We’re just smarter than the rest of the country.

TEX @ 9:01 am #

That is not true. I’m a NASCAR fan & I live in Pennsylvania. My dad, grandmother, & brother-in-law also watch it.
So, that’s false.
I am a fan of Dale Jr., though.

Laur @ 1:45 pm #

everyone else wants a sport that only steroids can help you with. racing is just you and a car, they have spotters but the real instant decision is yours alone.

Luna @ 2:06 pm #

good

mike b @ 5:44 pm #

I moved to Minnesota from Michigan and the major newspapers here barely mention NASCAR. People here are not loyal to Made in the USA products and that may be part of it. Many people near Detroit love anything to do with US autos for obvious reasons.

It's true @ 9:03 pm #

The stereotype of the American racefan. If the redneck(of which I am a card carring member) or hillbilly title were true then the races in Chicago,Las Vegas,California, lesser at Kansas ,Michigan,New Hampshire,Long Pond would not take place and NASCAR would be limited to the rural South.
But it is the White Collar of the Wall street world that is taking hold of the racing and out pricing it to most of the country.
Yes the roots of stockcar racing is in the south with it’s good ole boy(and girl) following but our southern tracks are being stolen and preppy venues are being added.
Racing was real til they paved the track. But when they paved the track the road was paved as well and the racing went coast to coast.
As far as the fan base goes the wall Street types looked for a GQ type person thus the Gordens or Khanes, and Junior, were a natural for the younger set.

blakree @ 1:23 am #

that is not true…i know alot of city people that love nascar

ki_kompt @ 3:01 am #

I live in California and there are alot of NASCAR fans here too. It’s not just a southern sport anymore.

Becca @ 8:18 am #

Well…I’m not a redneck nor a hilbilly…I’m a African-American young woman but I love Nascar.
I think that mostly southerners love Nascar because it is a sport that is from our part of the country. It’s roots are part of ours. The drivers come from similar backgrounds as we do.
Also..Nascar just isn’t a sport to us…IT’S A LIFESTYLE! When we attend the races we go there for days, not just on race day. We get our campers and our family and friends and camp out in the area where they let us. We get together and talk about what’s going on with our drivers and teams, etc.

DaleJr#1 @ 9:49 am #

The higher the technology, the higher the education required to understand it, hence why Formula 1 appeals to the intellectual crowd.
.

MC Hummer @ 11:34 am #

We have the brains that it takes to understand NASCAR. A lot of people see 43 guys driving in a circle. We see wrecks and a reason to drink lots of beer.
Just joking on that last part. I love NASCAR, and I’m a Dixie girl. Don’t have a favorite driver, I watch for the wrecks.

tinkerbe @ 11:49 am #

i think your wrong if u think all nascar fans are rednecks and hillbillies but go to a race and look at the campers aint no rednecks pulling in in those big ole luxury campers. us rednecks are pulling in in the old buses with the scaffoling on top
look around at the crowd at a race id sayits not all rednecks
i do think tho that big busness and big money are gonna price it outta the average fans price tag
HARRY GANT is STILL the man!!!!!

NONAME @ 5:58 pm #

Good old fashion American Values.
No driver acts like Terrell Owens, haven’t heard of any drug scandals in the garage, the entire organization openly supports our troops, and each race starts with a prayer but no one is offended.

Matt C @ 9:22 pm #

I like golf and nascar. So does my dad.

kayaress @ 1:51 am #

It’s because Nascar got started in the south with the rednecks making moonshine, they needed drivers who could outdo the law, then came the France family. But I now live in Fl. but moved here from Mass. and when I lived there, I watched Nascar, and some of the drivers as well are from all areas of the country now. Canada has Cascar, but are trying to get Nascar up there to run a race, never happen, So not all who watch Nascar are “rednecks” as you think. As far as Texas and Tenn., think about it, the LaBonte’s from Texas, and Darrell and Mike Waltrip are from Kentucky, most of your driver’s are southern, but watch and see how much that changes, and the people you know seem to just be on a bandwagon with two good drivers.

? @ 2:20 am #

Everybody else is afraid to admit it, or they don’t understand it!
