Why is a white guy with just a mustache considered cheesy or a redneck?
Why is it that when a white guy has a mustache without a beard it is considered cheesy? Related to that, it seems to be fashionable for a black man to sport a solo ‘stache. Why is this?
I am a younger (27) white guy who has a full beard but would like to wear just a mustache from time to time.

whats wrong with cheezy rednecks?
Not sure where you come from mate but in my neck of the woods (the UK), mustaches are a no no for any men (or in fact women) regardless of race.
The only people who wear them here are old guys, older gay guys and teenaged boys desperate to show that they are capable of growing facial hair.
Of course there are notable exceptios, people doing it with a sense of humour or into really retro fashions, but in general, upper lip hair is NOT considered sexy on anyone in the UK. Sorry honey
Brad Pitt pulls it off pretty well, George Clooney too, I say go for it, just look at there pictures and try to have a haircut that goes with it.
Its a sign of the times.
It you had muttonchops, all people would think is Victorian serial killer a la Jack the Ripper
I’m not good at non-violently commenting on the appearance of male acquaintances.
Perhaps, to those in tune with my homophobia, comments like:
“eh, he’s just a stupid, cheesy, generic S.O.B…. you’ll like him!”
are easier to explain to yourself clear-headedly (no pun).
… *Social observations aside, it seems that **you are “relating to your captor”, in a way. You should try to find an inner peace acceptable enough so that you can just wear your own face rather than wearing a museum of spite toward stereotypical observers.
It looks kind of old fashioned because it is not as attractive to females
To each his own.
Make your own fashion statement.
Don’t worry about others opinions on fashion. (that doesn’t mean to be dirty)
Facial hair is subject to fashion trends same as anything. 20 years ago ‘staches were cool, that evolved to the goatee thing, right now that’s fading and clean shaven is coming back. Once upon a time full and bushy beards or massive side whiskers were in. But the nice thing is you don’t have to follow trends, if you like (and can grow) a mustache, go for it.
