Why do some Caucasians look down on rednecks?
So i’m driving home with my Dodge, and southern rock playing with the windows down. it wasn’t loud, but this Caucasian feller with some Lexus mini van or something looked at me funny. And I thought he was funny. Lexus? really? I guess it’s like that in some parts of California.

sounds like you came upon a wigger!
some people think theyre better than others, if youre different they look down on you..but this refers to only a couple people, not everyone thinks the same way
There are some really bigoted rednecks out there. Some from my hometown are so racist, it kills me inside. I’m afraid you are taking some of the heat for them, whether you like it or not, which is in itself a form of stereotyping on their side.
Sad.
i thought rednecks and hillbillies were southern caucasians
hope it was lynyrd skynyrd you were listening to.otherwise,i could see why he looked at you funny
Great question!! To me, “redneck” is not so much the stereotype presented by Jeff Foxworthy (love his act tho) as it is an attitude!! Next time someone looks at you funny—consider yourself fortunate that you are above all the crap that a good percentage of the population has bought into!!
probably cuz they think they are classier than you because of the lexus and their ways of living and they may look at you as if you are a disgrace to the caucasian race….not to worry my friend because i think sometimes in different races you have people that are sophisticated and others who just don’t give a
peep……………..
tell me why mexicans look down on hispanics that don’t know full spanish like they do….oh well, cuz i was born in Wylie, Texas not Mexico and I still no how to speaka tha Espanol
ariba, ariba
The history of the word ‘redneck’ is very interesting. Take a look in Wikipedia.

Your observation is right on target. The Lexus driver may not have thought of you as a redneck, but his attitude reflects a position in society that has traditionally looked down on your kind of person. You embody the kind of freedom and simplicity that his life style has deemed ‘unsophisticated.’
In some sociology definitions his position is placed higher than yours. This is a synthetic paradigm that is common among social scientists as they try to figure out their field of interest: Sociology.
The Lexus driver belongs to the material culture. The value of a person in that culture is reflected by his rate of consumption. His idea of reality is supported by all forms of media advertising which in turn are supported by the corporations which are producing all the products that the Lexus driver believes gives his life meaning.
I would guess that you value your stubborn pride, your honor, and your willingness to fight for such things. I doubt that the Lexus driver would fight over a disagreement about which minivan was the best one.
Men such as yourself are usually used and abused by the material culture and those who are the primary beneficiaries of that culture. Looking down on you and others like you is their way to support their position that they and their ideas are better than yours.
Yet throughout our (America’s) history, it has been men like you who gave their blood in defense of America, while men like the Lexus driver have often found ways to avoid actually fighting in, and often benefiting from, war.
The material culture is doomed for the simple fact that it is unsustainable over the long term. What will the Lexus driver do when there is no more gas, no more cheap goods, and the air is hot and nearly breathable? He won’t have a clue. What will you do? You will make your own fuel and your own goods, and make a simple happy life for yourself and your family where ever you want to live. He is a slave of the material culture, and you are a free man. He sees this in reverse.
Mmmm I guess this is a rant. Sorry
I have been a redneck all my life and when I was stationed in Key West, Florida. Boy oh boy the way I talked and the things I said got noticed by everybody and they thought I was el sicko. To which I did not bother to reply. Hey if you do not know how to talk to a redneck, don’t try. We understand each other. And do not understand you. So go away.
