Why do people seem to think that the South is much more racist than the North of the US?

i live in the south and i get along with black people a whole lot better in real life than on this dumbass website. here in tennessee we all get along. its funny though when you see white folk from up north look at your friends like what the fuck is that? lol. you can tell they havent grown up with very many black people

I agree that racism is found all over America and that the south unjustly gets all of the blame for it, but c’mon let’s be real for a second. Do you really think that living in Birmingham Alabama is as progressive in terms of race relations to say New York City? I’m not saying New York isn’t racist (I live there and trust me it is to a degree), but when I’ve gone down south it feels like I’m stepping back in time.

My family is rooted in the south, but I grew up in the military. While growing up in the military in different cities and countries I have seen alot of racism on all sides. Racism is in every culture and race. Sad but true. We should all live by the golden rule.

The northeast US is proven to have the most intelligent, intellectual people. The more educated someone is, the less likely he is to be prejiduced, in general, against anyone – blacks, gay people, religious minorities, etc. It’s a fact.

You want the whole country to be racist, because you enjoy being a victim.

The North can be racist, but the South is far more blatant with their racism/prejudice. When I was in TX I saw on this news program the growing conflict and racial tension between Whites and Blacks in some town. A White man refered to the Black folks as “those people” and I was so appalled because there’s no way he would’ve been able to get away with talking about his Black neighbors in the context he was speaking of them in if he were in the North. Also, what is up with all of the Confederate flags flying in the South? Again, you wouldn’t get away with flying that sh*t up North at all! Lastly, my friend from TX wold me of a town in TX where for the longest time their entry banner clearly spelled out something disapproving of “n*ggers” entrance. What shocked me the most is how long they had it up without getting caught. No way in hell would they have had the audacity to post that up in the North and if they did then it would not have been posted for long! That town would’ve been lit so quick! Atleast, this is how it would be in MY area…

Yeah, there’s racism up north, but the South flaunts their racism like nobody’s business. Up North, it’s EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.

eh, every venture i’ve had down to the south has included someone making some sort of racist gesture towards me- i’m asian and live in chicago- but it wasn’t any worse than when i went to rural towns in wisconsin, indiana, and michigan (little midwest hick towns). there are indeed racists everywhere.

idk but they stupid to think something like that. i live n buffalo ny and the white people r racist ad ignorant. the only thing they no is school work theyre ignorant to diff races and cultures
