Why do people choose to give their group a bad name?
Why do whites act like rednecks, blacks act like thugs, and jews act greedy if they all know it’s just going to make people stereotype their group in a negative way?

Stereotyping happens among populations regardless of specific racial characterisitics. One way or another a race will be stereotyped – if it weren’t rednecks, thugs, or misers it would surely be something else.
