why are white gheto people called rednecks and where did the word come from ?

Redneck- people who work outside and their neck gets red from the sun.

Nowadays, redneck is another word for white trash.

During the Anthracite Coal Strikes some of the miners wore red handkerchiefs and the mine owners started calling them “rednecks” as a pejorative. This has come to mean any poor, uneducated, rural white person, but not necessarily a gangster. rednecks are the blue collar, good ol boys. White people from the trailer parks may be included. Hillbillies are backwoods sorts. Wiggers are white kids who act as though they’re from the ghetto.
