why are rednecks called rebels?

i was wondering why alot of rednecks or people from the south are called rebels i.e why are they labeled as rebels? confederate flag=rebel flag etc?

Southerners, redneck or not, are referred to as Rebels as a reference to the Confederacy from the War Between the States. This is because the South was “rebelling” against the Union and were, therefore, rebels.

However, the South was actually trying to peacefully leave the Union…but that is for another question.

It is a term of honor to most Southerners.

Also, Confederate soldiers were given the nickname Johnny Reb. Union soldiers were referred to as Billy Yank.

They don’t necessarily follow conventions. If something has to be done it is done with or without “proper” materials and/or tools.

Enjoy. Just do it. Don’t worry, be happy.

People limited to “conventional” solutions don’t feel comfortable with that and use word “rebel”.
