People that say Arkansas has a lot of hillbillies probably have never been to Arkansas. Don’t say anything if you haven’t been there.

One interesting thing that sort of supports your claim (perhaps “supports” is too strong a word) about Kentucky is that no other state has so many people who identify as “American.” (look at the Wikipedia map I linked to) Using this map, we could guess that Tennessee would be next, followed by West Virginia. About half of Arkansas identifies as “American” as well.

I mean, the census-takers were asking them about their ancestry, but it’s still interesting that they would respond that way.

Hillbillies now only exist in the Ozarks. People of all races have walked barefooted. What do people in Kentucky wear on their feet when they go to the beach? Barefooted, right?

In case you haven’t heard, Wal-Mart has rules—the “no shirt, no shoes, no service” rules just like all retail business in the US. It’s protection against civil litigation.

BTW: I’m a Kentuckian. I walk barefoot in my own home; however, I do own shoes and wear them in public. OFTEN! I also have 2 college degrees. I love Kentucky and I am proud to say I am from Kentucky. Does that make me an educated redneck (hillbilly)?

I would have to put in a vote for Wyoming and the biggest reason being the complete lack of sophistication specifically sorrounding Matthew Shepard and everything that happened because of it. I would aslo like to point out to people that Brokeback Montain is an unrealistic representaion of most western states. Also want to point out that Wyoming also has barefoot Walmart shoppers.

There are no bigger rednecks than in Louisiana. My brother in law ties bricks to himself, goes out into the river, walks the bottom, digs out the huge imbedded catfish, then cuts himself loose and floats to the top. Then sells his catch each day for money. This is how he supports them. Whatever season is in, coon huntin, fishin, deer huntin. Whatever he can sell for cash.

The gravel road to turn of the main road has a REAL fish head on the mailbox guiding the way to my sister’s home, which is a double wide on 32 acres in the middle of a cattle field. Yeah, cows graze on her flowers in the flower bed.

In that town, you go to Wal-Mart and, as God is my witness, you find people in hair rollers and house shoes, especially if it is Saturday and Sunday is on the way.

Barefoot in Wal-Mart and the park? Heck, where they live, I don’t think shoes exist. Their feet are so tough on the bottom I have seen my nephew step on nails and keep runnin.

Yeah, south LA is the worst.

there are rednecks everywhere even in other countrys. the more the blacks come at you with an attitude then the list of rednecks grows and grows. so we don’t have to recruit any rednecks .

I see nothing wrong with rednecks, they don’t let no one push them around!! So, what if some of them don’t wear shoes, they don’t care to get dirty feet. At least they stand up for what they believe in!! Come to FL. and see all the bare feets, everywhere.

I am fron Arkansas and I can tell you there are definitely some grade A rednecks here, but nothing like what I’ve seen in Kentucky and Mississippi.
Rednecks are all over the south.
Hillbillies—Well, Kentucky gets that award too. Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri rank right up there as well.

Heck , I like in NY and there are alot of rednecks who would put the KKK to shame lol (truth)

definitely tennessee.i moved here from massachusetts and they are beyond rednecks here!if you can actually understand what they are saying!!!!!!they drive around here without windshields and have actual signs pointing up to the mountains saying hillbillies with an arrow pointing straight up.!you go to mickey dees and they offer biscuits and gravy with sweeeeeeeeeeeet tea-forget about a cup of hot earl gray-lol
