You want me to be honest, so I will.

I have had ‘redneck’ friends before, some of them aren’t so bad. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them…I just personally don’t associate with them much. They are usually a little too loud, obnoxious, drink too much and uneducated for my tastes. Not all of them of course! But just from my experience. They are very hospitable though, which is a plus.

Every sociological group and sub-group has it’s unique qualities. Basing an opinion of a group on just one person is a mistake. If a person shows respect for others along with respect for himself or herself, then I like the person, regardless of our personal differences or likes and dislikes and lifestyles. Showing respect for one’s self and others is at the core of true etiquette and manners.

Their are good people and bad one every where, I don’t like to be predjudice against anyone as long as you treat me the way you would like to be treated.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the majority of rednecks are predjudice against foreigners, minorities and Muslims, right?

They seem to think they were the first ones who discovered the U.S. and so have more rigth to the U.S. then any other.

Well the entire Earth was created for the human race. land does not belong to anyone especially if it was gained through killing.

You sound like a cool person! Here in Alaska Country music is popular and Country rock like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly hatchett, and 38 Special are popular! We love fishin’ and huntin’ too! I think hillbillies are good looking and strong folks! Look at Elvis and Dolly! Oh and the food and the beer at a good ole fashioned family picnic! Red necks rule!

a red neck is a sign of sun burn, suggest you use high SPF and wear a hat

*the sarcastic* @ 11:06 pm #

the term “red neck” is misused – red neck was a term used for farmers whose necks turned red from farming in the sun – the proper term is Appalachian – referring to the people that lived in the Appalachian Hills – were very racist and incestuous

you yourself aren’t either of the 2 – u are just a southern gal – I know because I’m a “kuntree boi”

my opinion on rednecks – the actual defined – red necks – they are ok – farmers weren’t bad people – my mom married a farmer (white guy) he was pretty kool

well, i must say that i am in the same boat with you. i enjoy all that stuff but i wouldn’t tech. call myself a redneck, hillbilly maybe, but not a redneck, or what today’s society would refer to as one. a redneck was considered a farmer, so im not that. but today’s reference to “redneck” is loud, toothless people who don’t know how to act. well that’s not me. i have manners. i don’t mind getting dirty, having fun with the guys (most of my friends are guys), and i speak the way i speak practically out of habit. i don’t pay attention to the way i speak really. if people correct me, im like “sorry bout that” which probably just makes it worse lol. don’t worry bout what people say. i don’t. might as well have them to take you as you are. if they are true friends, then they’ll have you just the way you are, no if, and’s or but’s. but if they are out there to try and change you, then you don’t need them. live your life the way you want to live it, and not for anybody else.

@green- im not prejudice and i dont think that the hillybillys was the first to discover anything. i am indian (cherokee) and we was here when everybody else wasnt. just because people like doing things and being different doesnt make them prejudice. i also think that everybody should have rights to the freedom that the U.S. have. im all for it if you go through it the right way and im def not up for killing people.

I like your last line, it made me smile. Never let anyone change that you think that.

I don’t have a general opinion of rednecks. I judge people as I meet them. Some I would like and happily be friends with and some I wouldn’t. Wear and do what you want, I know a lot of people from different backgrounds, individualism just makes things more interesting, doesn’t it?

The only part of what you said that would deter me from being as good a friend woth you as any other person from and culture I would meet would be when you say “we’re not afraid to be dirty”. To what extent? Dirty in that you have been hunting or fishing and are dirty while you have been doing that activity? I personally hate people with constantly bad personal hygiene but if you just mean you’re not one of those “oh my god I broke a nail let’s go home” kind of people then I have no problem with that. In fact I would like you more, those people annoy me.

See for me there’s a BIG difference between someone who loves the country life and a ‘redneck’. From your description I would never consider calling you a redneck, you are a country girl which is a much classier person than a redneck. Also not all rednecks live in the south/midwest. I live in the north east and have encountered PLENTY of trash that I would consider ‘redneck’ just without the southern accent. For me a redneck is all the things that you described, toothless, uneducated, bigoted, obnoxiously loud, ignorant and proud to be all of that. But if you don’t have that in your personality you’re not a redneck just a proud country girl unafraid of being who you are. Which is very comendable as long as you are not hurting yourself or those around you then don’t change who you are/what you love.
Also, don’t forget labels are just that labels, given to you by OTHER people that don’t really know. If someone calls you ‘redneck’ in the negative way that I see it and you know you’re NOT that way, then that’s all that matters and they can go on stewing in their negativity while you live the life you love.

Im a redneck, country girl, cowgirl, whatever you want to call me and I hate how people talk about us and even my good friend says she hates rednecks and then she says but your the good kind and im like thats how all rednecks are you just have to get to know us and she actually has a redneck side she just wont say it she loves being on a farm or ranch and she always wants to go with me to my ranch and she wants to ride horses with me and stuff like that but she wont say she likes it!
It drives me crazy how people judge us when we arnt racists, the rebel flag isnt racists we where it and are proud of it because we are proud to be from the south.
I am stuck in the city rite now and I tried to fit in and I hated trying to be someone I wasnt and I went back to my roots and started to dress in my boots with my belt and buckle and shirt tucked in and now this year all the popular people are wearing boots and belts and saying there country when they would never be caught dead working on a farm!
And what I love about us is we all stick together and we have each others back whenever they may need it :)

Im a redneck and proud of it. :)

I think that people are too quick to judge rednecks. My family is from Texas, and we do all the things you described. Granted, there are the one or two people who are racist in my family, but the majority couldn’t care less about race. My dad’s very best friend in the world is a black man, and he is just as much a part of the family as anyone blood related. My dad is a farmer also, and does have the literal red neck. He is intelligent, works hard, a Baptist Christian, cooks the best meals I’ve ever had in my life, drinks maybe once a year tops, barely curses, and has his children work for what we want. At the same time, he hunts, fishes, doesn’t know a thing about technology, is a penny pincher, and talks in the stereotypical redneck southern manner.

There are some bad seeds, but people who judge a certain group by those bad seeds are judgmental and not very intelligent. :)
