It is for heritage not HATE. I fly one because I was brought up pretty southern. It has nothing to do with that. It is just twisted about with ignorance like this and than called ‘racist.’ I have friends of all kinds of different races/creeds.

The confederate flag is both a historic cultural symbol as well as a symbol of hate or intolerance.

I live in Mississippi and also fly a confederate flag…but that doesn’t make me racist. It is a symbol of my heritage, culture, and where I grew up.

While it is true that the confederate states were slave states, the formation of the Confederacy, the Civil war, and in turn the creation of the Confederate flag. The truth is, the South split off over the issue of over taxation. The Confederacy was formed over states rights, and that those were taxation rights, not slavery rights.

The coalition of southern states that tried to separate from the U.S. in the 1860s many southerners still consider that a noble effort, even though it failed. They believe the Confederate flag honors the veterans of the Civil War, and the history and independent spirit of the South. Many southerners say the flag honors the memory of their ancestors who fought and died for the south. But the Confederacy wasn’t just about southern independence. It also vigorously defended slavery. But many White Americans you see with those flags abuse it’s original signification.

I honestly don’t care about that flag. It taught many racist how to hate being there was a war over freeing slaves.

Tha Confederate Flag stands for freedom! The same as the framers of the US Constitution intended. It never had any racial over tones nor does it now. The signers of our constitution only did so with the proviso of the 10th admendment-that states could withdraw from the union.
