What Baby Names Sound Low-class In Your Culture?
In America, we seem to have a few types of low-class names people often look down on — the “ghetto” names (like Shaniqua and Lexxus), the “redneck” names (like Beulah and Lula-Mae), and the “stripper” names (like Cinnamon and Amethyst). Perhaps there are other categories as well.
I was wondering — if you are from a different culture, what names sound low-class in your country?
What names yell “My family is uneducated” in Russian?
What names scream “I’m a stripper” in Mandarin?
What names say “My family was poor and from the country” in Arabic?
What names are considered “chavvy” in England?
What names does your culture make fun of?

In Scotland we have many chavvy names. I agree with Clare. I’d like to add Jade, Shannon, Jordan, Charmaine to that list. The kind of kids who hang about at the fairground. Sorry if this offends anyone.
I’m just in Canada, but I know what you mean about those stripper names like Candy and Cosmo. And yes, the more “racially defined” (for lack of a better term) names like LaQueesha and K’Tita and T’Quila. http://www.babynames.com/namelist/938832…
I say any name that is a type of food or candy is a stripper. PLEASE don’t name your baby Candycane! Please!
Any name that starts w/ La is generally “ghetto”. Laquisha, Latonya, Latoya, Lavonne, etc.
Crystal, Tania, Bubba, Jed, Chantal, Cheryl, Hunter, to name just a few.
Personally, I can’t stand names like:
McKayla
McKenzie
Madison
McKenna
I cringe every time I hear them.
Southern California, USA
LaTika, LaShonda, LaToya, Jazz=ghetto names
Willa Mae, Bubba(no joke), Nana, Josiphine, Mildred, Gaye, Nelda, Lierd=redneck names=people I am related to
I’m just from Michigan BUT anything that is Hunter, Gunner, anything that starts with Mc or Mac (McKenna, Mcayla, etc.) are serious redneck names.
Jose, Pancho, Maria and Juan those are pretty bad. In my culture everyone has these names. It’s like they don’t know any other names.
In Scotland, where I’m from names like Chantalle, Chanel, Charlene etc. are quite chavvy.
