A Doctor Who fan named Matt Smith (the same name as the current actor who plays the Doctor) proposed to his girlfriend in front of a TARDIS model at the BBC’s Doctor Who Experience:

But this was not Matt Smith the actor – it is a 22-year-old from Rochford in Essex who worked with BBC Worldwide to set up his proposal, which was accepted, at the Doctor Who Experience in London.

Mr Smith surprised his new fiancee, avid Who fan Stacie-Anne Dilkes, who thought she was heading to London for a shopping trip.

He thought it would be the perfect location and slipped away from his partner to pop on the uniform of the 11th Doctor then pretending to be an exhibit before popping the question on one knee.

We’ve seen monowheels before, but what made J.H. Purves’s design different from the rest was that it could stand up on its own. Allegedly, it could go up to thirty miles an hour. But as you can see from the above photo, it had at least one serious design flaw.

Mental_floss dug up some rather obscure events that drew crowds desperate for amusement, like the Dionne Quintuplets. The five girls born in 1934 were put on display by the Canadian government in a special facility in which they could be observed through glass. Planning something special for Valentine's Day? Not if you're in Uzbekistan. The authorities in the Central Asian nation has canceled Valentine's Day:

Instead, residents in the capital of Tashkent can enjoy readings of poems by Mughal emperor Babur, who died in the 16th century.

The unofficial ban on romance-related festivities echoes long-standing antagonism in Uzbekistan toward the holiday. Last year, the Turkiston newspaper described Valentine's Day as the work of "forces with evil goals bent on putting an end to national values."
