Speaking of names, what do you think of double first names?

25

I’ve never been a fan of anything *too* redneck (LOL) but we have been considering some double first names if this next baby is a girl (not really a fan of any for boys..).

What’s your opinion of double first names?
Oh definitely nothing like Bobbie Jo lol! We actually had two options in mind, Lauren Grace and Hannah Ruth.

Depends on the name really. Some sound stupid as all heck and some are very cute.

Mama Dukes @ 9:25 pm #

It can be cute sometimes. I think it depends on which names you use.

Jillzilla @ 9:49 pm #

I like them. I always liked Mary Kate.

They’re only redneck if they’re JimBob or TimBob (ha ha j/k Dread).

You mean like Bobbie Jo or something? I don’t know.. I’ve never been much of a fan… In the end, the majority of people will only go by one of their names anyways. I think giving kids more than one of any name is silly… Just pick one!

But I would like to hear the ones you’re throwing around… I just can’t think of that many and the ones I can think of DO sound rednecky… but maybe you’ve come up with a nicer one?

Lauren Grace is BEAUTIFUL… but I have to admit… I’m not a fan of Hannah Ruth :-/

Kacey @ 11:20 pm #

i really think they are unique and redneck never comes to mine.

Bonini @ 11:26 pm #

My name is double (hyphenated) and I’m not bred from rednecks…lol. I like that it’s unique, but I hate how hard it is to get people to actually call me by my entire first name, They almost always lop off the second half :(

TJS @ 11:28 pm #

Sure if it is something cute like Mary Ann or Maribeth…

It depend on the name(s). I have seen a few I like, but more that I hate.

Why so serious? @ 1:03 am #

Well, BobbyLou and BettyAnn are pretty redneck… Something like MaryKate is pretty though

*eta
I really like Lauren Grace :)

chatrbox424 @ 1:16 am #

I agree with Sookie, it depends on the name, especially if you do a fairly long double first name plus a long middle name, b/c when they get to be an adult they have to use all that on any legal affairs or bank signatures, makes for a really long name to sign!!

mtgcnv67 @ 1:26 am #

I think they’re too redneck too! Especially the ones ending in Joe and Sue: Bobbie Joe, Betty Joe, Peggy Sue, lol.

I don’t mind names like Maryann, though. Usually, those are technically one name (no space in the middle), but they don’t sound so redneck.

Sometimes it IS cute to grab the middle name of the girl when you call her…my Grandma always called my mom Teri Lee. Even if they called them “Betty Joe”, I think I’d like it a lot more if Joe was set as the middle name, or just added as a nickname…that way the resume doesn’t look strange to the office she’s applying to in California!

Oh-Yeah! @ 1:52 am #

I live in redneckville.
We have a lot of Bobbi Jo’s, Sami Jo’s, stupid stuff like that. I know a girl who recently named her daughter Emma Lee Jo but they call her Emma Lee, so dumb.

Rebel Rebel, You've torn your dress. @ 2:03 am #

My first name is Mollie Elizabeth and my little brothers name is Benjamin George.
To some people i guess they sound stupid, but its personal preferance.
I actually like double first names :)

congrats on the baby :)

Pook S™ 19-0 @ 2:04 am #

If the two names made sense I don’t see why they couldn’t be good.. like JT (James-Thomas)

Ambiance @ 2:30 am #

I have a different view on them because my mother wanted to name me Bobby Jo…… I’m so thankful she didn’t follow through on that. If you go with a double name just think to yourself, would I want to be named that? I have found some older double names that are very cute and do make good names. Just watch for those redneck names.

Morgan @ 3:20 am #

I have never really been a fan of double first name. Not sure why, they just aren’t something I like. I love both Lauren Grace and Hannah Ruth, but me being pigheaded in the fact that I don’t like double first names, I prefer those as being first/middle name combos. :)

Concise @ 4:02 am #

They’re alright sometimes. Lauren Grace sounds darling.

Nina Lee @ 4:43 am #

I honestly can’t think of anyone I know who has one except for my brother and sister-in-law who plan on naming their baby Emma Lou if it’s a girl. They also have dogs named Clyde and Earl, so, yeah. :P
I am surrounded by the rednecks I love so I have nothing against rednecks, lol.

The second thing that comes to mind is, “wow, that’s a mouth full when you are calling several names to get them to come eat dinner”, lol.

Leah's Mommy @ 5:29 am #

I’m not a fan but Lauren Grace is beautiful!

E's Momma is officially trying for baby #2!! @ 6:07 am #

Our daughters name is Emma and her middle name is Elise… We call her Emma Elise a lot of the time. So not a double first name… but even just “normal” first/middle names can be combined instead of “Emma Elise Middle Last” which on her would sound like double middle names instead of double first names.

Are you confused yet? lol

momma dread @ 6:19 am #

you mean like TimBob and Kai Bo?

absolutely unnacceptable!.. WTF… why are you trying to screw your child’s future?

i’ve alwyas liked the name Ruth… Ruthie Grace would be cute-ish

WyomingCowgirl94 @ 6:43 am #

What’s with the stereotyping? There is nothing wrong with being a redneck. I have a double name, Rosie Mae. There’s nothing wrong with double names.

?????? ???™ @ 6:56 am #

I have a double first name.

I like it quite a lot and think it’s a beautiful name. I always liked it because it makes me feel like an original. The two names are both on the common side of the spectrum, but the combination makes it unique.

The one thing that annoys me, though, is that people often shorten it and only call me by the first of the names, so I’m constantly reintroducing myself and clarifying. You might consider putting a hyphen in between the two names (Lauren-Grace instead of Lauren Grace) to more clearly get the message across that this is all one name. Just a suggestion.

Ashlie @ 7:37 am #

I like Lauren Grace but maybe change it to Laura Grace? Kind of rolls of the tongue better. I see nothing wrong with double names :) Hannah Ruth is such a cute name!

Maddox's Mommy,Andrea! @ 7:45 am #

Those aren’t very hick it’s okay,lol
I like some that are elegant and sweet like Anna Maureen or Scarlette Lynn, but not ones that are trashy and lame, like Bobbi Jean (girl).Yuckk.
