My Name is Earl TV show – Where is it supposed to be located? Anytown USA?

They drove to vegas and it looks like it is filmed in CA but they talk about jersey and have had some places in Maryland like Frostburg in the Professor episode. Just wondering if it is set somewhere or just supposed to be any random place?
