Is the media, by calling a group of people “rednecks” the same as using the “n” word for another group?
The media, in its politically correct, out-of-control environment, goes out of its way to avoid “offending” people, but when people try to hold to any kind of “traditional” values, and protesting what they think is wrong, and attend all the “tea parties” around the country, they are branded as “Rednecks”. this will only further alienate an already irate people who are sick of big government. The media is supposed to be unbiased, TRULY unbiased.
So WHY the bigotry towards tens of millions of traditional americans?
Again, the media is supposed to be UNBIASED in their reporting.
Whites have been discriminated against in this country even before any African slaves hit american shores. The reason Africans were imported in Georgia area is because over 50,000 “white slaves” died in the swamps. Captives and undesirables from Scotland and Ireland. Street urchins in London, all packed up and sent to the Americas. They couldnt handle that type of climate, and died by the thousands.
It was soon discovered that Africans could handle the climate much better, so they were brought in only AFTER it was found that northern latitude whites couldnt survive in that area.
Irish, polish, and German immigrants were discriminated against.
selective history, also.

It does seem be the most condescending term for white, non-urban americans. It is in put-down thesaurus I think, along with white trash. It is okay to offend people you disagree with right? That shows them. Serves as a warning to the young, too. See join your parents and grandparents and you will be stupid and unworthy of respect like them.
Who told you the media was supposed to be unbiased? A spin doctor media member? Media was NEVER unbiased. There were incredibily partisan inflammatory newspapers since long before the American revolution (which the king tried to suppress). That is one reason the founders put freedom of press in the bill of rights.
Warning: long post
Key word is they are “supposed” to be, but not are…
I complain about the same thing. Political correctness has unfortunately done nothing at least in the way that many people use it.
It’s a cool concept, but it’s execution unfortunately just alters around who can or cannot be made fun of because it’s application many choose only to apply to certain groups but not all.
In it’s application you can’t blurt out any racial epithet unless it’s for white people. Anything said against racial and ethnic minorities is looked down and the second you say them many people are offended, but when people say “honky” or “cracker” not as many bat an eyelash. The media in it’s censorship will censor or edit out all sorts of words said against racial and ethnic minorities but when it’s towards white people it’s nowhere near as often bleeped out or cut.
Being PC I think is at heart really a good thing, but it’s seriously misplaced and misbalanced. It really should be all or none, instead of how it is where it’s some and not others.
On top of that, as you say, the media SHOULD be unbiased but it isn’t. It’s usually the result of cultural sensitivities. The dominant opinion on this subject is to give non-white people a little more leniency as they have indeed been historically oppressed and discriminated against and cutting them a break by making things against them a little more attention. White people haven’t been oppressed as much so there isn’t as strong an opinion that things said about them are as offensive because to some it may be seen as an eye for an eye or to others as not as high a priority.
But nonetheless, despite noticibly higher levels of oppression and discrimintation of non-whites as versus to the inverse, if we are to truly have an equal or egalitarian society, then equal offense should be taken to nasty things said against various groups or otherwise power switches over into another groups favor instead of being equalized like it should and various members of groups that are acceptable to make fun of now will complain that it’s unfair and imbalanced, therefore allowing the arguing and fighting to continue, effectively down the line solving nothing.
The short answer to your question would be a no. The media and societal/cultural values that go behind it don’t consider “redneck” as offensive.
This is also partially due to it’s lowered level of offensiveness to the word, thank you very much Jeff Foxworthy! lol N-word is too thanks to rappers and comedians which also isn’t a bad thing.
In all reality I think all that is kind of a good thing as long as they are used without intent of harm, which they can as they are, after all, just words. So with that there is the great potential that the cultural inclination I stated above won’t even be an issue down the road.
Good answer?
