Is It Legal To Make Up A Name For One’s Self And Use It Legally Without Changing Your Mame?

6

Hi, hope I can get some help with this. I have the standard three names, i.e. ‘Jim’ and ‘Bob’ and surname such as ‘Redneck’. I use my second name, ‘Bob’, causes a LOT of problems as on most things, checks, driver’s license, etc, it shows my first name, ‘Jim’. Can I just omit the first name and sign ‘Bob Redneck’ and state I have no first name legally? Thnxs, Signed ‘My Name Is Bob’ :-)

No it is not legal, dummy mcdoofus. Feel free to use that name, though.

You can use an alias. Many people do. However you can not use this to impersonate another person.
I have known people that go by a middle name. You could be J. Bob Redneck. That is an alias.
If you wish to be known by another name, you can petition the court for your name to be changed. Laws on this vary from state to state. An attorney would be advisable. There are things you have to do in addition filing some papers.

Yes, you legally can do that. You don’t even have to sign a single letter, so long as it is a symbol to represent YOU.

Your legal name is your is the name on your birth certificate and you have to legally change it if you want a different legal name. You should sign your tax returns, loans etc… with your legal name. If you go by a AKA that is usually a nickname and OK, but you can get in trouble by falsifying your information. I have also heard that if two people witness you signing a name, then that can be considered your name. ????

Not anymore. You must legally change it. Seek an attorney, it only costs about 300 bucks to legally change a name.

Only in a literary or theatrical sense. You can write books under another name. You can act in another name.
