People here are very image conscious so the different look you have is probably drawing more attention. People are shallow but what can you do
is it through binoculars ?
That’s why we have the following bumper sticker:
Welcome to California, now go back home!
they see that they have red necks !
You need to get out of the city and go back to the farms just outside of town. There you will find more rednecks than you can shake a turd at.
They look up to them as someone to emulate.
As a hillbilly cad. Some see it as a fad. Give it time. They are people too, they have their ways, in which you do not understand.
maybe you’re living in the wrong city. try bakersfield. you should feel at home there.
Don’t worry about what people think of you, just be proud of where you came from. It’s just 2 totally different environments.
If they want to laugh at you, just give em a good southern howdy ( ! )…
I lived in CA. Couldn’t wait to bail out of there. It’s a totally different way of life. It is being taken over by asians and hispanics. That is NOT a racist statement, it’s a fact.
I got out not due to ethnic groups (worked with two awesome guys from India) because of the smog and was in the Whittier quake on 1987. I had enough.
You just dont live in the right part of California. There are millions of rednecks out here. The majority of the people who settled this state were from the heartland. The Japanese cars and people who seem to be disgusted by you are just rude people who live everywhere. If you can, check out the San Gabriel Valley and San Bernardino County. You’ll meet a lot of rednecks and I guarantee you, they drive a lot of trucks and good old American cars. Come on down-or over as the case may be.
sounds like you’re in the OC?!!? I can only speak for so-cal… some parts people just don’t give a d— and they are rude. As long as you take a shower daily and don’t stink I don’t have a problem with anyone.
Society has gone into this idea that everyone needs to be the same. redneck, hippies, goths, or the cowboys we need everyone! This is what makes people cool! If people give you a hard time F–K ‘em!!!
bytheway, where you from?
The Californian the we encountered refer to rednecks out here as “uneducated in breeders.” However, once they were hit with a marvelous and harsh reality by the same redneck, they shut up.
I am a Redneck and I know that people look down on us. Say we talk differently and cannot talk properly. Sounds to me like they are making judgements that are unnecessary. And stupid. Rednecks are as good as anyone else. While in the Navy I was stationed in Florida and got several remarks about my speech and language. Like it was so different they could not understand me. So no big deal I could understand them.
