Back in the day, many people in the south married distant to close cousins. That is why you may find that almost everyone is related to someone else in a small southern town, and that the same family names are widely used.

because they used to inbred ALOT. even today all the royal family members of europe are inbred thats why they all look alike.

Streotyping from black dudes who get rejected by white girls, They have to say something to save their low self esteem, so they came up with this saying.

In smaller towns, you often find that people who are related consider their in-laws in-laws relatives. For instance, my brother-in-law’s father is considered to be related to me, even though he is not. Further, people in small towns are often so close that they feel like family even when they are not blood related. Therefore, they come to family reunions and such and are considered family even when they are not. Really, small towns are just close groups of people who really truly care for and look after one another. Often, a “redneck” will joke that he’s marrying his sister, but it’s really just the girl from down the road who he grew up with – who is not related in any way. People who like to insult small town folk (ie: rednecks) created the rumor that they marry within the family, but they don’t.
