Has anyone else ever noticed that rednecks only know 1 reggae song?
Ive noticed lots of rednecks think they are “worldy” and “cultural” because they know 1 reggae song (Red Red Wine). I can’t count how many rednecks I’ve been around that sing this song but don’t know any other reggae songs and they like to smoke (blank) and listen to it like as if they are in jamaica but its not even really a song you smoke to. Anyone else from the south know what Im talking about?
Ok I forgot about I shot the Sheriff. Youre right, thats the only other song they know.

I dont even listen to Reggae that much. I’ve just noticed (growing up in the south) that they play that song alot and its almost a pop song, not even really reggae, but they make this face when they are smoking (blank) like as if they are in Jamaica or something and proud of themselves. Like they feel real cool when they listen to it and smoke (blank). I dont know too many Reggae acts myself, just Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, but I would never be tasteless enough to listen to that song when smoking (blank) and I would definately not make that proud face they make when they put it on.

ck, what makes you think I cant fight. I get respect from all the rednecks I grew up with cuz im the only one who made a name for himself while they all sat on the sidelines and placed bets on me.
Im not saying they sit around in tiki shorts etc. We would go out mudding in the woods and have a party. We’d be out there and they’d be listening to all kinds of things. Mostly country, but then someone would put on red red wine and they’d all get this face and change their attitude. They’d go from being rowdy to being rasta and like I said, that song is almost like pop and its not even about smoking but they’d only listen to it when smoking. Then I lived with this crackhead redneck lady. She smoked crack all the time and was evicted from her trailer so she lived in this house I lived in (long story) and she would do the same thing, put on red red wine and smoke (blank) and get that dumb face on and start talking about things like the bahamas even though thats not even in Jamaica.

No actually Im from Fort Pierce, Florida, which as you can see here has the highest crime rate in the country. I would actually be classified as a wigger before a snob.I have 2 assaults on my record and my parents are dead and worked blue collar jobs, but I guess you have the right to stereotype since I did.

I’m a misplaced Yankee in the South, but a lot of rednecks do kind of know Bob Marley. I think it’s because Eric Clapton covered I Shot the Sheriff.

This is a stereo type and defining a redneck is hard to do. How many Cajun dance songs do you know and you think that you are worldly and cultural. Or how many songs have Chinese language or German or French? You could be a little narrow minded yourself by thinking that reggae is the end all and be all of being cultural.
I am not a redneck. I live in Houston,TX and that is like the only reggae song i know. Anyways I do have family in smaller towns and ummm they don’t listen to that. I don’t even think they know of that song.They also are the last ones to call themselves worldy or cultural.
I used to listen to Marley when I smoked pot though.

Again, family in Giddings TX. They’d have no idea what your talking about . True rednecks listen to old school rock and country. They fish, hunt, shoot, and drink….Most I have known can also dance really well. They don’t sit around with tiki torches and carribean shirts and listen to reggae.

I don’t know that song and I haven’t noticed. Does that make me a non redneck..lol. Most of my friends don’t leave their home in the woods unless they want to go ride their motorcycle or they need to for work and could care less about raggea music.
Well, I’m not a redneck, but I live in a redneck location of the country, and I think that the reason rednecks don’t like Reggae is for one reason only – they are racist and don’t like black people.
Personally, I love black people but I purposely try not to listen to reggae because Jamaiccan people HATE homosexuals like no one else on earth, and I’m gay so I have a problem with that.
Since I catch giant flatheads by hand, hunt boars with a knife and eat crawfish everyday their in season, I’ll go ahead and count myself as a redneck. With that said you are wrong to assume that most even know one song or what reggae even is. In fact they could not care any less.
Myself I am a fan. ‘Crazy Baldheads’ and ’96 degrees in the shade’ are my too favorites with ‘Natural Mystic’ and ‘I’m hurting inside’ not far behind. They are right down the playlist from “Mouth for war’ and ‘Cowboys from hell’ by Pantera.
