Do You Think That Sisters/brothers Calling Each Other “sissy” And “bubba” At Young Ages Sounds Redneck?
I never thought so, my my mother in law told me that it sounds redneck when my 18 month old son calls his sister “sissy” instead of her real name. or vice versa, if she calls him “bubba” instead of his real name. what do the rest of you think?

To someone who is from the north, some of the midwest, or the west (I’ve lived in all parts of this great country, including the south), yes, those nicknames do have a touch of southern backwoods twang to them.
Don’t sweat it too much.
As long as your children can communicate well, can interact with other children, and know each others’ names as well as the nicknames they use, I wouldn’t worry about it. Mothers-in-law often say things that they either don’t realize are stressful or they purposely pick to stress you.
I am from Alabama so let me tell ya! Sissy is just like saying sister. Bubba is pretty redneck… Buddy as well… I call my brother “Bud” still and he’s 31!
Like I said, I am southern, so I know
I have friends whose children have nicknames for everyone:
The daughter, Grace goes by Sissy.
The son, Ethan goes by Bubby.
The daughter, Taylor goes by Taytay.
Grandpa and Grandma are Papa and Ninny.
Aunt Shawna is Aunt Lala and Uncle Phil is Uncle Bob.
Who knows where they came up with all the nicknames, but I think it’s pretty cute for now. Hopefully they’ll eventually grow out of it, and start calling people by their real names. Haha!
