As much as it is a negative stereotype, you can say that they have red necks, because they work in the sun all the time, obviously like a farm or whatever.

well those out in Iowa,Indiana,Nebraska,Florida,Ohio,etc those places that produce large amounts of ag products why sure they spend a great deal of time in the sun.

Given that it came from them being farmers, the only part of them that was exposed to the sun was their necks and they burned because and they were of a race which does not have so not much melanin ……but now? I think it’s taken on a different meaning.

Rednecks is actually an old classist term referring to poor irish farmers back in the day when people still referred to them as “white niggers” etc.
