Confederate Flag and “Rednecks”?
What exactly is a redneck? I know they are into country, stuff mudding, etc however they also bear the Confederate Flag. The Confederate Flag was used in the South during the Civil War and it represented the slavery of African Americans. Are people who wear this flag and call themselves rednecks racist or are they just unaware of the meaning of the flag? Or am I wrong about the Confederate Flag representing slavery?

Comments on Confederate Flag and “Rednecks”?
Redneck is best described is the same as white trash. And while some of them may be completely unaware of what the confederate Flag is, most of them know damn well. These are the people who claim that the Civil War was fought over “state’s rights” and not slavery, like the rest of the world knows.
If, God forbid, a bull riding rodeo thingamajig ever comes to where you live, stand outside of it and you’ll get a textbook example of rednecks.
The confederate flag isnt a symbol for slavery, its simply representing the South. Which they used in the Civil War which was over MANY other things than just slavery.
I tell people with the confederate flag that the south lost and they need to get over it.
“it represented the slavery of African Americans.”–incorrect
A redneck is usually a farmer, hence the red neck from sunburn. Slangwise it’s a backward asz country feck though.
I have some redneck friends. Some best friends of mine.. And the Confederate represents some kind of heritage, not slavery. The confederates used slavery as a means of wealth production(Capitalism) because they were too lazy to pick the cotton theirselves.
All rednecks do not carry the confederate all the time. Have you ever seen a Northern redneck before? because those are the one’s Im mostly friends with..
being from the south, the only white people who have confederate flags are the racist whites. i cant speak on the north cause im not from there but as far as the south goes….yeah they usually have a tend o be racist
“Or am I wrong about the Confederate Flag representing slavery?”
Imagine that you live in a democratic country that’s rapidly expanding, this country’s military forces have successfully removed the native inhabitants from the land they would like to use to expand their boarders. Now you get people to move into these areas. The people who moved out there take a vote and determine that they would like the right to have slaves. But the powers than be say “well, you can live there, but if this area wants to have slaves then it can’t be a recognized part of the country.” Basically, the people who moved to the new area, and who are already citizens mind you, and who already decided through the democratic process, that they want to have slaves are being told by the same government who had no qualms about committing genocide against the native inhabitants in the first place, that they no longer are free to make the decisions for themselves.
That’s the big issue. Yes slavery was definitely a part of it, but the metaphorical 800 pound gorilla in the room was the issue of the federal government impeding on the rights of the states. Slavery was technically still legal at that point in states that allowed, and traditionally the federal government allowed the states to handle the matter of slavery themselves. Alot of people believed that by not permitting any more slave states into the union that the federal government overstepped it’s bounds.
Well it depends on who you ask but a redneck is someone who likes mudding, hunting, fishing, and just partys good
Also we are not racists for wearing the confederate flag by no means does that flag stand for racism, just because it flew over slavery does not mean it is racists if it did then that would mean the American flag is too,the American flag actually flew over racism for longer, its not racist to wear a confederate flag on clothing or to fly one it means you are proud to be from the south and it stands for you heritage not racism! Anyone who thinks it is racists needs a history lesson!
The Confederate flag is a symbol of Southern pride, not racism. Call me a redneck, white trash, whatever – I’m proud to be a Southerner, and my respect for the Confederate flag symbolizes this.
