Can Someone Explain Why Dirt-poor Rednecks Always Vote For The Gop?

The GOP does a good job at appealing to one issue voters. People who are harmed a great deal by the policies of the GOP will still vote for them because of one issue like abortion, gun control, anti-immigration, etc.
The day poor people of all colors unite, the leadership of this country will tremble.

I think it’s primarily inadequate education and lack of access to reliable news sources. They’re simply not informed enough to see the truth behind the propaganda. As Sahara said, they’re also more easily swayed by religion-based propaganda and they don’t recognize the hypocrisy or the unconstitutionality of it.

Because your premise is knowingly inaccurate. The top 2% are not the only people to benefit from republicans. Republicans address issues of concern to people from all walks of life. Most Americans do not want to live in a nanny state, many remember how their parents and grandparents told them to work hard and make an honest living. The top 2% and top 10% pay the overwhelming majority of all federal income taxes, a higher % of their income than any other bracket and their tax liability is a higher% of the federal income tax revenue than the % of the money they control. Even most of us poor people know who pays and who doesnt. The bottom 40% pay very,very little and most pay NONE. If you have a child or two, you will even get OTHER PEOPLES money back in the form of the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income.

They have been brainwashed by the right wing media, Fox, to vote against their own interests. Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, and Coulter must be having a good laugh over how the undereducated and poor are keeping the rich in power. It’s probably the biggest hoax that’s ever been perpetrated on the public.

Because those dirt poor rednecks understand something you don’t. There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. They have been lied to by those people who say to them, you are too stupid to take care of yourself so we’ll get the government to take care of you. They believed that for a while and things didn’t get better. Now they are recognizing that ANY time the government gets involved in their lives it just costs them more in the long run.
As the saying goes, you can fool some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time. But you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
Illegal immigrants are here because the borders aren’t closed. And jobs are going overseas because labor unions have priced US workers out of the market. It’s more the fault of the Democrats than GOP.

My parents are next door neighbor w/ a stock car racing/building, beer guzzling redneck (in illinois) and my daughter calls him Uncle Ted.
My dad is also business partners/co-workers with a nascar loving, harley riding redneck named moose – and he’s my Godfather.
I don’t know if they are republican or democrat – but I love’em like they’re my real family. I hate generalized statements. Cause not ALL rednecks are inbreed, toothless, mindless drones – why can’t we all just get along??

“Rednecks” vote Republican for the same reason that minorities usually vote Democrat. It’s what their parents and grandparents did, and they are too lazy or ignorant to think for themselves.
The coin has two sides, but rarely do we look at both.

Because the dirt-poor rednecks who always vote for the GOP aren’t very good at math and think the odds of wining the lottery and becoming part of that upper 2% are pretty good.

That’s like saying all minorities vote democratic. Get a clue.
